On September 20, 2020 South Simcoe Police began an investigation of a reported disappearance.

The complainant, a Barrie man, informed Police that he could not contact his ex-wife or their eight-year-old son. The ex-wife and son lived in Bradford. The complainant advised he had not seen them for over a month and last had contact with his ex-wife via text approximately two weeks prior. The ex-wife had failed to meet the complainant to exchange custody of the child.

Through investigation it was learned that the ex-wife and the son had left Canada and flown to Europe. The ex-wife was contravening a valid court ordered custody agreement by removing the son from Canada without the father's knowledge or consent. The investigation was ongoing.

On Nov. 11, 2020 South Simcoe Police Officers attended Pearson International Airport in Toronto and located both the ex-wife and son. The son was found in good health, and turned over to the custody of his father.

The ex-wife was arrested and charged with disobeying a court order and abduction in contravention of a court order.

The accused, a 37-year-old female and former Bradford resident, was held for a bail hearing and will appear via video in Barrie Provincial Court on Nove. 12, 2020.
