A crash closed a section of Yonge Street, near the 5th Line intersection, in Innisfil Oct. 24.

South Simcoe police closed a stretch of Yonge Street, near the 5th Line intersection, in Innisfil earlier tonight.

In a post made on X, the social-media platform formerly known as Twitter, just before 7 p.m. Oct. 24, the department asked motorists to avoid the area due to a collision investigation. The road has since reopened.

Police spokesperson Sue Sgambati told InnisfilToday a pickup truck was travelling westbound on the 5th. It allegedly failed to stop at the intersection, then collided with a northbound sport utility vehicle (SUV).

"Both vehicles received heavy damage and rolled into ditches west of the intersection," she said. "No serious injuries were reported but the driver of the SUV was transported (to hospital) with minor injuries after being extricated from the vehicle."

The driver of the pickup truck was charged with careless driving.
