Innisfil man charged after police seize loaded handgun at crash

An Innisfil man has been charged after South Simcoe police say officers seized a loaded handgun on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023.

An Innisfil man faces numerous charges after South Simcoe police seized a loaded handgun during a crash investigation Saturday night.

Shortly before 11 p.m., Aug. 19, officers responded to the area of St. Johns Road and the 6th Line in Innisfil for a vehicle in the ditch.  

Once on scene, police say officers discovered the suspect driver and lone occupant of the vehicle had walked away from the crash and returned to the scene prior to police arrival.

Police say the alleged driver, who had suffered minor injuries, was arrested at the scene for impaired driving.  

Officers searched the area and located drugs and drug paraphernalia. The canine unit was also called to the scene to conduct a search and located a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

Neyland Dalzell, 21, of Innisfil, has been charged with more than a dozen offences, including impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, multiple firearms offences, drug possession, and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
