K9 unit nabs suspect in stolen vehicle in Innisfil

Police say the 23-year-old fled after a traffic stop revealed the licence plate didn't match the description of the vehicle

The South Simcoe Police Service K9 Unit arrested a suspect who fled from police in a stolen vehicle in Innisfil.

On Sunday, March 20, 2022, at approximately 2 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Leslie Drive and Willard Avenue on a vehicle with a licence plate not matching the description of the vehicle. The vehicle fled from police at a high rate of speed. Due to public safety concerns, police did not initiate a pursuit. One of the responding officers subsequently located the suspect vehicle abandoned behind model homes in the area of 6th Line and Angus Street. The K9 Unit attended the scene and following a 4 kilometre search, the suspect was located on the side of nearby railroad tracks and placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed the suspect vehicle had been stolen from another jurisdiction.

As a result of the investigation, 23-year-old Dyllen Eshetu of Innisfil was charged with:

  • Flight from peace officer,
  • Dangerous operation; and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.  

He was released with a future court date.
