A Barrie woman has pleaded guilty to three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm following a December 2022 crash in front of Sadlon Arena.
Cassie Korzenko, who was 32 years old when she was charged, is scheduled to be back in court Jan. 24 to set a date for her sentencing hearing.
She appeared virtually in an Orillia courtroom on Tuesday to face the charges and enter a plea.
After three people were struck outside Sadlon Arena last winter and suffered serious injuries, Korzenko was arrested at the scene and charged.
Barrie city police said Korzenko was driving her vehicle south on Bayview Drive when she collided with the pedestrians and then also struck two other vehicles, whose occupants were uninjured.
A worker from Empower Simcoe and two men who use its services suffered serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle at Mapleview and Bayview drives in the city's south end on Dec. 1, 2022. They were on their way to a Barrie Colts game when they were struck.
The organization provides services to people with physical and intellectual disabilities.
In early January 2023, Empower Simcoe announced the three people had been released from Toronto hospital and had returned to Barrie to recover.
The crash victims include Empower Simcoe community support worker Melanie Smith, 52, as well as two middle-aged men named Sean and Jeff, who receive support from the organization. The two men had also been involved with Special Olympics.
Following her arrest, Korzenko spent nearly two months in custody before being released on bail Jan. 25, 2023.
