Man arrested after vehicle crashes into Cookstown home

A 23-year-old Innisfil man is facing several charges after a fleeing vehicle crashed into a home in Cookstown.

On Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, around 9 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer attempted to stop a vehicle travelling at a high rate on 5th Sideroad north of Highway 89 in Innisfil.  A speed measurement was obtained of 136 km/h in a posted 80 zone.  The vehicle failed to stop and a brief pursuit ensued but was quickly terminated for safety reasons.  The suspect vehicle subsequently crashed into a house on Highway 89 in Cookstown. There were no injuries but the collision ruptured a gas line.  The driver was arrested on scene.

As a result of investigation, a 23-year-old Innisfil man was charged with:
  • Speeding
  • Stunt driving
  • Dangerous driving
  • Flight from police

The man's licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He was released with a future court date.
