TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS – On Thursday, May 28, 2020, at approximately 6:18 a.m., members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service from an individual concerned about a male with a firearm on River Drive in Essa Township.
Officers responded immediately and successfully located a male matching the description provided by the caller. As a result of the investigation, officers arrested the accused.
Thirty-year-old Douglas King, of the Municipality of Marmora and Lake, has been charged with:
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to s.88 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
- Carrying concealed weapon, contrary to s.90 CC;
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to s. 117.01(1) CC;
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to s.733.1(1) CC; and
- Imitation Firearm-Use while committing offence, contrary to s.85(2)(a) CC.
The accused is being held pending a bail hearing.
Nottawasaga OPP is asking local residents or businesses who may have captured the suspect or incident on security camera to contact police.

When you contact Crime Stoppers you remain anonymous, you will never have to testify and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
