A Midland man arrested for playing chicken with vehicles is accused of stealing from the OPP detachment on his way out of the drunk tank.

At about 6:30 p.m. Monday, Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers responded to a report of someone who was playing chicken with vehicles while on foot at the intersection of King Street and Heritage Drive in Midland.

Police arrested the man under the Liquor Licence and Control Act and took him to the detachment, where he was placed in a cell to sober up.

Shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday, the “well-rested individual was released from the cells and promptly attended the detachment public entrance and unlawfully removed items from a road safety partner’s fund display containing food stuffs,” police said in a news release.

The 21-year-old man was arrested at a nearby business and charged with theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order. He is set to appear in court May 23.
