South Simcoe Police are appealing for witnesses in a shooting that took place on a Bradford farm shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday July 17.
The victim, a 44-year-old Bradford man, was working on the farm on the 4th Line near Highway 27, when he was shot by an unknown person.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and later transported to a trauma centre in Toronto where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
He was released from the hospital the following day following treatment for a non-life-threatening injury. He is now at home, in good condition and recovering.
Staff Sgt. Sheryl Sutton, the officer in charge of the Criminal Investigations Bureau, made a statement at South Simcoe Police Headquarters in Bradford Wednesday afternoon.
“At this time we are appealing to witnesses who may have been in the area at the time and saw anything that was suspicious or out of the ordinary, or if anyone that has any information on this that heard about it after the fact,” she said.
At this time, police are not revealing where the victim was shot or where the shot came from.
“We do know the victim was struck one time but we’re not able to say at this time how many shots were fired,” she said.
The victim was working in the field of the crop farm when he was shot. There were other workers in the area that did not sustain any injuries.
“We can’t say whether or not this was a targeted act or a random act or an accident, we’re looking into all possible motives and investigative leads,” confirmed Sgt. Sutton.
Sgt. Sutton noted that the victim, workers and property owners are cooperating with the police and have interviewed several witnesses.
“This is certainly not something that happens everyday. We’re looking for the motive but not speculating on what the motive can be,” she said.
There is no concern for public safety at this time.
