Barrie police have released information about the pedestrian fatality which occurred in the city’s downtown yesterday morning, and are asking for the public's help.

At 10:37 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, city police were called to Mary Street where they found a deceased woman on the street with a large truck parked in front.

A 60-year-old Barrie woman was pronounced dead as a result of serious injuries sustained after she had stepped off the west curb onto Mary Street between Dunlop Street West and Simcoe Street, and was struck by the departing truck from a nearby construction site.

The driver of the involved truck was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Barrie Police Service traffic unit.

Surveillance video from the immediate area has been located and seized by police.
