RIDE stop results in charges after two found with cocaine, weapons and cash

In addition to trafficking charges, both were charged with failure to properly wear seat belt

INNISFIL - South Simcoe Police Service officers seized a large amount of cash and a quantity of drugs during a RIDE stop last night in Innisfil.

On Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 at 4:30 p.m., police had just begun a large RIDE operation at the 9th Line and 20th Sideroad in Innisfil when a vehicle was stopped with two occupants. An officer observed what appeared to be a quantity of drugs in the vehicle and both the female driver and male passenger were arrested.

Investigation led to police locating over $25,500 in cash and 11 grams of suspected cocaine along with drug paraphernalia, a baton, a knife and a baseball bat.

A 23-year-old Innisfil woman is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Fail to properly wear seat belt
  • Drive motor vehicle no validation on plate
  • Drive motor vehicle no valid permit

A 21-year-old Barrie man is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Breach of probation
  • Fail to properly wear seat belt

Both suspects were transported to the North Division where they were later released with a future court date.

This is the second drug seizure in two weeks that originated with a RIDE stop. Officers are committed to public safety through proactive enforcement initiatives like RIDE that can lead to arrests for a variety of criminal activity in addition to impaired driving.
