South Simcoe Police Service is proud to be participating in Canada Road Safety Week, a national campaign targeted at aggressive, distracted and impaired driving. Today marks the beginning of the seven-day awareness initiative from May 12-18 designed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures in order to save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
This year’s campaign theme is about “Shifting Gears." We are encouraging citizens to “think differently” about problematic driving behaviours by broadening their understanding of the rules and following them in order to keep our communities safe. We are also inviting them to acknowledge the bad habits they may not have realized they had and to “change their driving behaviours” accordingly.
South Simcoe Police Service, along with other services, will focus on the “Big Four" contributors to collisions that often cause injury to people. These include speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving and impaired driving. While traffic on our roads may be reduced due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, our enforcement has continued.
We are proud to be participating in this year’s Canada Road Safety Campaign. This initiative is led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and more specifically, by the CACP’s Traffic Safety Committee. By working together with our residents, we are confident that our local efforts will help make the roads here in Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil safe for everyone.
