The South Simcoe Police Service charged two people - only hours apart - with impaired driving-related offences over the weekend.
On Friday, June 7, 2024 at approximately 10:30 p.m., police conducted a traffic-related vehicle stop on Innisfil Beach Road, just east of Yonge Street in the Town of Innisfil. When speaking to the driver, police detected an odour of alcohol and other signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the North Division. A 30-year-old Lindsay man was charged with dangerous operation, operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
On Saturday, June 8, 2024 at approximately 2:00 a.m., police were travelling northbound on Yonge Street in the Town of Innisfil and observed a vehicle parked on the side of the road with its hazard light on. When speaking to the driver, police detected an odour of alcohol and an open liquor container between the passengers legs. A roadside breath test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to the North Division. As a result of an investigation, a 35-year-old Innisfil man was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration, novice driver - blood alcohol content above zero, and having care and control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Instead, arrange for a designated driver, arrange for a ride service, take public transportation or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.
