South Simcoe police charge 7 drivers with impaired

Six of the charges were laid over the weekend

The South Simcoe Police Service recently charged seven people with impaired driving offences, and six occurred over the weekend.

On March 5, at approximately 8:20 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on 25th Sideroad in Innisfil. As a result of an investigation, a 61-year-old from Innisfil was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol.

On March 5, around 5:20 p.m., police were conducting a RIDE program in the area of Big Bay Point Road and 25th Sideroad in Innisfil. As a result of a RIDE check, a 63-year-old driver from Innisfil was charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol and having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

On March 5, at approximately 2:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving erratically on Yonge Street in Bradford West Gwillimbury. As a result of an investigation, a 44-year-old driver from Newfoundland was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol.

On March 4, at approximately 9 p.m., police were called regarding a three-vehicle collision on Yonge Street near Lockhart Road in Innisfil. As a result of an investigation, a 50-year-old from Orillia was charged with operation while impaired and dangerous operation. 

On March 4, at approximately 2:30 p.m., police responded to a two-vehicle collision in the area of Line 8 and Noble Drive in Bradford West Gwillimbury. As a result of an investigation, a 50-year-old driver from Bradford was charged with operation while impaired and failing or refusing to comply with the demand.

On March 3,  at approximately 3:53 p.m., an officer conducting speed enforcement in the area of County Road 89 in Innisfil stopped a vehicle for speeding. As a result of an investigation, a 52-year-old from North Carolina was charged with operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol, speeding and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.

On March 1, at approximately 5 p.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle driving erratically at high speed and subsequently struck a parked vehicle in the area of Big Bay Point Road and Sideroad 20 in Innisfil.

There were no injuries. As a result of an investigation, a 30-year-old driver from Barrie was charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol and dangerous operation.


In addition to the arrest for impaired driving during the RIDE program, police also laid the following charges as a result of RIDE checks:

  • Three-day licence suspension (alcohol)
  • Three-day licence suspension (drug)
  • One provincial offence notice - novice driver presence of a drug
  • One provincial offence notice - driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available
