NEWS RELEASE

South Simcoe Police Service launched the annual Festive RIDE campaign on Nov. 27, 2020 and it ran until Jan. 2, 2021.

Officers arrested and charged 15 drivers with impaired-related offences and stopped 1,211 vehicles. Just like everything else, Festive RIDE was a little different this year with physical distancing and face masks. Despite fewer vehicles on the road due to the pandemic, the number of people charged is similar to last year which was 17 arrests during the same time period. We credit proactive patrols and citizens who called 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.

We extend our gratitude to those citizens who work with us to stop impaired driving. Thank you to the drivers who continue to keep our roads safe by driving sober.   We continue to encourage you to contact police immediately if you see dangerous driving or behaviours on the road that could jeopardize the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
