South Simcoe police lay 198 charges after crime spree

Four charged in relation to numerous stolen items, including eight vehicles, $100K worth of conductor wire

The South Simcoe Police Service has arrested four people and laid 198 charges following a multi-jurisdictional string of property-related crimes.

The investigation by the Street Crime Unit began in July 2022 and resulted in police solving 33 occurrences spanning Bradford, Innisfil, Barrie, York Region and Toronto.

The crime spree consisted of break and enters at stores and commercial properties where numerous items were taken including tools, equipment and vehicles.

Officers executed five search warrants in Bradford and Innisfil where they recovered a quantity of stolen property including eight stolen vehicles, a skid steer, commercial dumpster, forklift, numerous chainsaws, numerous constructions saws, numerous pieces of construction equipment, several pressure washers and approximately $100,000 worth of conductor wire.

As a result of the investigation, police charged the following people:

  • Eric Smith, 50, of Innisfil
  • Walter Viveiros, 48, of Bradford
  • Terrence Zerafa, 30, of Innisfil
  • Douglas McCurdy, 31, of Newmarket

Charges include:

  • Break and enter
  • Theft over $5,000
  • Trafficking stolen property
  • Possession of property of crime
  • Motor vehicle theft
