Suspicious vehicle stop leads to multiple charges

Police found drug paraphernalia in the vehicle as well as a collection of knives on the driver's side floor and in the door

On Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 10:40 p.m. officers observed a rental vehicle driving suspiciously in the area of Mary Street and Dunlop Street West, in the City of Barrie. The vehicle was stopped by a member of the Community Response Unit (CRU) and the driver was found to be driving with a suspended licence. 

Police also spotted drug paraphernalia in the vehicle as well as, what appeared to be, a collection of knives on the driver's side floor and in the door. A 35-year-old Innisfil man was arrested and the weapons and contents of the vehicle were investigated further.

He has been charged with the following charges:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking- Cocaine
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance- Cocaine
  • Possessing Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession of Counterfeit Money
  • Breach of Firearms Prohibition x 2

Seized during the arrest:

  1. A quantity of U.S. and Canadian currency suspected to be counterfeit
  2. A quantity of currency believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking
  3. 105g of cocaine 
  4. 5" bladed flick knife
  5. Butcher knife

The male was held at the Barrie Police Service for a bail hearing in Barrie court the following day to answer to his charges.
