A 16-year-old is facing several charges after allegedly stealing a car and taking it for a joyride.
Just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, Barrie police responded to a call of a collision on Country Lane in the city’s south end, where they found one car had crashed into a parked vehicle.
“Upon arrival, police located the wreckage of an older model passenger car that struck a midsize sport utility vehicle that was parked on the road,” noted communications coordinator Peter Leon in a news release. “Oddly enough, police had just taken a report involving the overnight theft of the passenger car.”
Officers then placed the driver of the car — a 16-year-old of no fixed address — under arrest and brought the teen to Barrie Police Headquarters on Fairview Road for further investigation.
The youth, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is facing charges that include being found unlawfully in a dwelling, theft of a motor vehicle, careless driving and driving without a licence.
The teen was held for a bail hearing and released later in the day, with a court date scheduled for May 7 in Barrie.
