A 17-year-old boy is in critical but stable condition after falling from a moving vehicle outside a Bradford high school, police say.

South Simcoe Police Service officers are investigating an incident that occurred in the parking lot at Holy Trinity Catholic High School, located on Melbourne Drive in the central part of the town, Tuesday at about 1:43 p.m. In social-media posts late this afternoon, the department said a student had been transported to hospital.

“Investigation is ongoing,” police said. “The vehicle occupants remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation.”

The school was placed into a hold and secure — a measure where all exterior doors are locked and entry and exit from the building is prohibited, but classes continue within the school as normal — in order to maintain “a calm and orderly response,” said principal Michael Borgia in a letter sent to Holy Trinity families, a copy of which was provided to BradfordToday by the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.

“Emergency responders immediately attended the school and secured the location,” he said. “The hold and secure remained in place until dismissal. I want to thank the students, staff and community members for their support as we work through this difficult situation. As a school community, let us pray for the well-being and recovery of the student. We will provide updates to our community once more information is known.”

At the end of the school day, buses were rerouted to an alternate location and students were provided specific instructions about how and where to exit, Borgia said.

In a media release issued Tuesday evening, police appealed for witnesses.

Anyone with information or dash camera footage related to this incident is asked to contact Const. Matt Grove at 905-775-3311, ext. 2034, or [email protected].
