A female teenager was hit by a school bus in Newmarket this morning.

Police responded to the report of a bus hitting a pedestrian in the area of Davis and Carlson drives at 8:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, York Regional Police Const. Laura Nicolle said.

The bus driver remained at the scene of the collision, which is in the area of Huron Heights Secondary School.

The teenager was assessed by paramedics at the scene and was to go to the hospital with her family, but there didn’t appear to be any major injuries, Nicolle said.

Police could not confirm if there were passengers on the bus at the time of the collision, but no other injuries were reported.

Student Transportation Services of York Region (STSYR), which operates busing for both YRDSB and YCDSB, responded to the incident but could not confirm whether the teenager was a student in either board.

"This morning, STSYR was notified of an accident involving a pedestrian and a school bus.  We are grateful that the pedestrian’s reported injuries are not considered to be serious, and will continue to look into the matter.  For privacy reasons, however, we are not able to disclose identifiable information about the pedestrian," STSYR manager Claire Tupchong said.

Further details will be provided if available.
