Three impaired drivers nabbed by South Simcoe police over 4 days

In one incident police were notified of a driver asleep at the wheel at a Bradford intersection

The South Simcoe Police Service laid the following impaired driving charges from Jan. 20 to 23.

On Friday, Jan. 20, at approximately 11 p.m., police received a driving complaint from a citizen and located the vehicle in question in the area of Yonge Street and Highway 89 in the Town of Innisfil. As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old from Wasaga Beach was charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol

His licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

On Sunday, Jan. 22, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police were called regarding a fail-to-remain collision on Holland Street East in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. The suspect vehicle was subsequently located. As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Bradford resident was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Dangerous operation
  • Failure to stop after accident
  • Failure to report accident
  • Novice driver blood alcohol content above zero 
  • Having control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available

His licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

On Monday, Jan. 23, at 12:16 a.m., police were notified of a driver asleep at the wheel at the intersection of Dissette Street and Holland Street in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. Police later located the vehicle on the 8th Line and conducted a traffic stop. As a result of the investigation, a 49-year-old Newmarket resident was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired 
  • Operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol

His licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Drivers are reminded to do their part for road safety by never driving after consuming alcohol or drugs and never letting anyone else drive if they know or suspect that they have consumed either. If you suspect someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

From Friday, Jan. 20, to Monday, Jan. 24, the South Simcoe Police Service responded to 333 calls for service.
