INNISFIL - A multi-vehicle collision on Yonge Street in Innisfil on Sunday has left a Barrie woman with life-threatening injuries.

South Simcoe Police Service temporarily closed Yonge Street between 9th and 10th Lines around 2 p.m. as a result of the three-vehicle collision.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the collision occurred when a 16-year-old driver travelling northbound on Yonge attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway. The turn was made into the path of southbound traffic directly colliding with one vehicle and causing minor damage to a third.

Four people were sent to a local hospital including a young child.

All the injuries were initially believed to be non-life-threatening. However, a 25-year-old Barrie woman who was driving the second vehicle was later airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with what are now considered to be life-threatening injuries.

 The investigation is ongoing.
