Summer break is upon us, and Genesis Gymnastics in Bradford is ready to rock, roll and cartwheel through the season with a full slate of programs for kids age 3 and up.

Throughout July and August, families can choose from camps, special events, clinics and classes including Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening sessions. The variety of programming offers flexibility in terms of both scheduling and budget, making gymnastics an attainable activity for children who are eager to get out and have fun with their peers, some for the first time in over two years.

Genesis Gymnastics’ owner Donna Katz understands the physical and emotional impact that her programs can have on the students, particularly post-pandemic:

“For the past two and a half years, I have been studying mindset work and the power of the mind,” says Katz. “I really believe that this work has helped me with my business and staying positive through the pandemic. I want to pass this information along to the kids so that they can create the results in their lives that they want....despite the outside circumstances.”

Donna has seen firsthand the way the COVID-19 pandemic affected children, and how quickly they can bounce back from those feelings of isolation through programs that combine community, physical activity and play. “The benefits (of gymnastics) for mental health are so important, especially now. Think of a four-year old who hasn’t been out or had any interactions with other kids for two years. We’ve noticed when they first come in, they seem to have taken a step back. But when they begin interacting in the transformation is clear. It’s incredible how all of that seems to fade away.”

Sports and physical training programs are integral in helping children increase their strength, stability and coordination, and gymnastics has the added benefit of building a healthy spirit as well. “Gymnastics really is about mind, body and soul,” says Katz. “It’s not just one thing. We teach positivity, and the importance of being your own person. The mindset aspect of gymnastics is just amazing.”

More than 8,000 students have trained with Genesis Gymnastics since the 6,500 square foot studio first opened in 2012.

Donna is appreciative of her students, parents and community, and embraces the chance to give back when possible. “I’m so grateful for our community and the support they’ve given us through all of this. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them still supporting me.” The group regularly gives back by participating in community shows and school Spirit Days.

On Saturday July 23rd, the Genesis Gymnastics crew will be on-site to support at the 4th annual Walk for Chiari in support of Sick Kids Hospital.

The event is hosted by 10-year old Mason, a local resident who was diagnosed at age 5 with Chiari Malformation, a rare brain condition. The Walk for Chiari takes place from 11am-2pm at from 11-2pm at 471 West Park Avenue in Bradford. Genesis Gymnastics will be on site with fun equipment for the kids to play on, and the event will feature cotton candy, ice cream and more.
