The Town of BWG officially kicked off its new Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) Pilot Project, announcing the first four speed camera locations during an unveiling last week.

ASE is an automated system that uses a camera and a speed measurement device to detect and capture images of vehicles travelling more than the posted speed limit.

Endorsed by Council in October 2023, the pilot project will include a total of three rotations, with each rotation including four new ASE locations at Community Safety Zones throughout BWG.

Each rotation will commence with a mandatory 90-day notification period before any cameras are installed and operational, via advanced warning signs at each respective ASE location. The notification period will be followed by an operational/in-use period of four months during which time the cameras will be active and tickets will be issued to vehicle owners caught speeding in the posted areas. After four months of operation, the cameras at the locations of the first rotation will be removed and reinstalled at four new Community Safety Zone locations, to begin the second rotation of the pilot project.

The first rotation of cameras will be installed at the following Community Safety Zone locations, at least 90 days after the start of the notification period. Advanced warning signs have been posted at these locations as of February 1, 2024. ASE cameras will be installed and operational in May 2024.

1.         Line 7, between Lallien Drive and Dixon Road.

2.         Holland Street West, between West Park Avenue and Professor Day Drive.

3.         Professor Day Drive, south of Breeze Drive and West Park Avenue.

4.         Simcoe Road, near Catania Avenue.

The Town has partnered with Global Traffic Group Ltd. for the duration of the pilot project, to provide technology, processing solutions, and ASE expertise to BWG.
