June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, an opportunity to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

We are grateful to exist here on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabek Nation, which includes Ojibwe, Odawa and Potawatomi Nation, collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy. We recognize that the Huron-Wendat, Chippewa and Haudenosaunee Nations have walked on this territory over time.

The BWG Public Library will be screening three Indigenous films from the National Film Board in the café on loop starting at 9:30 am – Arctic Song, Nalujuk Night, and Evan's Drum.

Join us later on in the day at Sunshine Square and the Library Grounds for an evening of song, dance, and reflection as we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day in BWG.

Wednesday, June 21 at 471 West Park Ave.

4:30 pm: Sunshine Square (outdoors) at the Leisure Centre for Opening Ceremonies, Smudge and a Flag Raising.

5:30-8:30 pm: Library West Lawn (outdoors) for a Pop Up Market (starting at 5:30), Song, Drum and Dance (starting at 6:00).

*Please bring your own lawn chair

The event has been organized by the BWG Indigenous-led committee (Jennifer Bahinski of Rise Up BWG and Kevin J.D. Nanibush Morrison) with support from the Town of BWG and the BWG Public Library. We extend a special thanks to Canadian Heritage for their sponsorship through the Celebrate Canada program.
