The incredibly popular BWG Seed Library is about to launch its third season!

Starting on Saturday, March 20, BWG community members will be able to select and reserve up to eight packages of seeds. The BWG Seed Library includes vegetables, flowers and herb seeds. All seeds are open pollinated and many are heritage varieties.

Seed libraries help protect genetic diversity and promote food security, and everyone is encouraged to borrow some seeds and start their own garden. All seed orders will include seed starting and saving tips, as well as suggestions where you can find more information, but you can always reach out through Facebook Messenger or email at [email protected].

To get started, browse the Seed Library page of the website for detailed descriptions and planting information, then place your reservations on the seeds you would like to plant. There are limited quantities on seed varieties, so order early for best selection. The catalogue and website will be updated regularly to keep selections accurate and you will be contacted if the seed variety you request is out of stock.Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all seed requests will be handled online through the BWG Library catalogue.  Once you receive notification that your seeds are ready, you can pick them up using the BWG Library’s Curbside Pick-Up Service.

You need a library card to reserve seeds – if you don’t have one, it’s easy to sign up for a card online. Simply go to the BWG Library website at bradford.library.on.ca and click on My Account on the upper right-hand corner, then fill out the application.

The reasons to garden go beyond nutritious vegetables and beautiful flowers and include both physical and mental health benefits. We will share planting and gardening tips and suggestions on Facebook and Instagram, so check back regularly for garden related books, tips and crafts!
