AccessAbility Week
May 28 to June 3 is National AccessAbility Week – a week dedicated to celebrating, promoting, and supporting disability inclusion and accessibility in Canada. There are several ways you can get involved in Accessibility Week:
Join our Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) at their Annual AccessAbility Week Event at the Leisure Centre on Monday, May 29 from 2:30 to 6:00 pm. The AAC will have a booth at the Community Corner (indoors) of the Leisure Centre, ready to answer your questions and listen to your ideas. A Flag Raising will follow at 6:00 pm at the Leisure Centre flag pole (outdoors).
We encourage community members to wear red on May 31 to show their support for people living with disability and their commitment to helping create an accessible and inclusive Canada. Share a selfie or group photo using hashtags #NAAW, #RedShirtDay, and RedForAccessAbility and tag @townofbwg. Learn more at www.redshirtday.ca.

Italian Heritage Month and Festa della Rebubblica
Italian Heritage month is celebrated across Canada every June, recognizing the community’s contributions to building the strong, vibrant, and consciously more inclusive country we know today. Festa della Repubblica is the Italian National Day and Republic Day and is celebrated on June 2 each year, commemorating the institutional referendum and the fall of Fascism in 1946.
Please join us for a flag-raising on Friday, June 2 at 11:00 am (outside) at the Court House Courtyard at 57 Holland Street E.
Pride Month
Every June, 2SLGBTQI+ communities and allies come together to spotlight the resilience, celebrate the talent, and recognize the contributions of 2SLGBTQI+ communities.
Please join us for a flag-raising on Friday, June 2 at 3:00 pm (outside) at the BWG Leisure Centre at 471 West Park Avenue.
In addition to a proclamation and flag raising ceremony, the BWG Public Library and Cultural Centre will be hosting a Drag Queen Story Time and installing a “BWG PRIDE Wall” display. Learn more here. The Bradford Farmer’s Market is also hosting a Pride Festival at their June 10th market.
National Health and Fitness Day
Saturday, June 3 is National Health and Fitness Day and we’re inviting all Canadians from coast to coast to get up, get out and get active to show your support. Our dream is for Canada to be the fittest nation on Earth, and we need your help. Take part of a massive movement around movement. Portuguese Heritage Month and Portugal Day
Portuguese Heritage month is celebrated across Canada every June, recognizing the community’s contributions to building the strong, vibrant, and consciously more inclusive country we know today. Portugal Day is the official national holiday of Portugal, and it is observed on June 10 each year. The day is intended to remember the death of Luís de Camões, who is recognized as the country’s greatest national icon.

Seniors’ Month
Seniors’ Month is an annual province-wide celebration of the vital contribution of older adults in our community. In celebration of National Seniors Month, the Danube Seniors Leisure Centre is hosting a Seniors Health and Wellness Fair on June 15th, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. Meet face-to-face with 12+ health care agencies.
