CrossFit Bradford expands with new location

In this week’s Midweek Mugging, we chat with the married owners of CrossFit Bradford, which offers ‘functional fitness’ in Bradford West Gwillimbury

CrossFit Bradford has moved to a new location, and Bradford West Gwillimbury residents are invited to celebrate its grand opening this weekend.

With its new location at 389 Dissette St., there is plenty of space for new and existing members to work out.

Husband and wife team Dan and Laura Sinclair are the owners of the club. They met in 2013 at a CrossFit gym in Markham that Dan also owns.

“He was Coach Dan and I was taking classes,” said Laura with a smile.

They hit it off, and eventually got married and moved to BWG, where they eventually bought the CrossFit Bradford business together in June 2016.

“CrossFit training is functional fitness designed to make you better at things you do in daily life,” explained Laura. “A combination of Olympic lifting, gymnastics, running, and cardio… You will lose weight, get stronger, and feel more confident.”

At CrossFit Bradford, people of all skills and abilities are welcome. Before joining, you meet with a coach for a free 15 minute consultation called a No Sweat Intro.

“We talk about your goals and what you are looking to achieve and then we come up with a prescription for you,” Laura explained, referring to membership options.

The club offers a variety of customized fitness programs, including personal training, group fitness classes, a postpartum group, nutrition training, kids fitness and a CrossFit foundations class.

“Everyone goes through our foundations program. It’s four personal training sessions and we go through everything that you need to come into the group setting and be successful,” said Laura.

The club currently has 150 members with the majority of them being from Bradford and all with a wide variety of skill sets.

“We have people of all different backgrounds,” explained Laura. “We’ve got shift workers, we have stay at home moms, people that have hundreds of pounds to lose, people that were former athletes,” she said. “So you can have a really high level athlete and someone who has never done anything fitness-related in the class, and we do a good job of integrating everyone together.”

Laura said her job as a coach is very rewarding and loves seeing the difference in people’s skills and confidence levels as they continue to train. All group classes are one hour in length and capped at 12 people per class.

“You just show up here for an hour. You turn off your brain. You have fun,” she said. “It’s about making people feel good about themselves.”

CrossFit Bradford recently moved to a bigger space in December, right next door to its original location. The new space is larger and enables them to offer more programs and a better experience for its members.

“We just wanted to have a more premium facility for our members,” said Laura.
