Meaningful learning for kids is key at Bradford’s Oxford Learning Centre

In this week’s Mid-Week Mugging, hit the books with Oxford Learning Centre in Bradford West Gwillimbury

Not every child finds their footing at school, right away.

And when the challenges become too great — keeping up with studies, handling homework and tests, dealing with stress — young students can fall behind and lose their confidence.

That’s where Oxford Learning Centres come in, providing tutoring services that not only boost competency in English, French, math and sciences for students from preschool to high school, but also teaching effective study habits and learning techniques.

Kids learn the basics in a friendly setting, moving forward at their own pace. They are also taught note-taking skills, study habits and time-management skills that result in better grades, and create a foundation for improved learning at every level.

“We create individualized programs for each student,” said Lisa Spagnuolo, director of Bradford West Gwillimbury’s Oxford Learning Centre, and a certified teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers. “We focus mostly on literacy and math skills.”

And while the summer school programs have wrapped up for another year, the centre is just gearing up for the new school year, offering a range of age and grade-appropriate programming.

To mark the transition, Oxford Learning held an ice cream social on Sept. 22 — with raffles, face-painting, and an ice cream truck, handing out frozen treats for free.

“It’s the second year for the ice cream party, for our students, and for the rest of the community as well,” said Spagnuolo. “Just for the fun of it.”

Bradford’s Oxford Learning Centre is part of a network of centres across Ontario. Owned by Danielle Spagnuolo, the learning centre is located at 483 Holland St. W., Unit 6.

Spagnuolo, also a member of the Ontario Teachers’ College, with a bachelor of education from the University of Windsor, made her goals clear: “I thoroughly enjoy helping many families and students achieve their goals and aspirations through the Oxford Learning Difference” — meaningful learning, instead of simply learning by memorization.

“It is my passion and commitment to improve the lives of children through education.”
