Bruce J. Davis has been in and around Bradford West Gwillimbury most of his life.

He was born in Toronto and raised in the Lefroy area of Innisfil. He attended high school in Bradford.

In October 1972, he joined the Bradford Police Force as a constable after having served in excess of two years as an auxiliary member with them.

He was named Chief of Innisfil Police in 1984, and appointed Chief of the South Simcoe Police Service Jan. 1, 1997 after the police forces in Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil joined together.

Davis is a graduate of Georgian College, and he has a masters certificate in public administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University.

He is a past president of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), and former director of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP).

In January 2008, Davis was appointed to the Order of Merit of Police Forces by Queen Elizabeth II, and presented with the honour by the Governor General of Canada.

He retired after 40 years of policing in January 2012.

Since 1998, Davis and his wife, Linda, have lived near the Holland Marsh and still have property there.

They and their daughter, Brooke, and granddaughter, Serena, currently live in the south end.

He believes the rapid growth in BWG is necessary but must be controlled and handled in a responsible fashion.

“All of the people’s wishes must be brought forward and heard and taken into account — being presented by a strong voice, especially in Ward 3,” he said.

Davis will do that.
