Glimmer of hope? No new deaths from Roberta Place, active resident cases down to one

For the second consecutive day, there are no new COVID-related deaths being reported by the long-term care home

For the second consecutive day, there are no new COVID-related deaths linked to the outbreak at the Roberta Place long-term care home in south-end Barrie.

Community relations co-ordinator Stephanie Barber also confirmed to BarrieToday there is only one active case among residents. 

To date, 66 residents have died after contracting the virus at the home, which was declared in outbreak on Jan. 8 by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

Overall, there have been 67 deaths linked to the outbreak at the 137-bed Essa Road facility. An essential caregiver associated with the home previously succumbed to the virus.

The current number of active cases among staff/team members also dropped to 26 on Thursday, down from Wednesday’s 37.

On Jan. 23, public health officials confirmed the presence of the more easily transmissible B.1.1.7 UK variant as being the cause of the outbreak.
