A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared by public health at The Elden of Bradford Retirement Residence as of Dec. 26, after a resident, in the hospital for another health-related issue, tested positive for the virus.

The resident was admitted to the hospital over a week ago for another undisclosed health-related issue and tested positive for the virus during their hospital stay.

As a precaution, all residents have been tested for the virus and are awaiting results.

Director of Operations at The Elden, David McEachern says the residence has been very cautious and careful with their COVID-19 protocols throughout the pandemic.

The 152-unit retirement residence has been in lockdown mode since the start of the pandemic, with strict public health protocols in place including regular testing, staff only being permitted to work at The Elden, regular disinfecting throughout the residence and other safety measures.

This is the first COVID-19 case reported at the retirement residence.

BradfordToday will provide an update on the test results and the patient as information becomes available.
