TORONTO - blueRover Inc. has signed a deal with top Canadian grocery retailer Sobeys to deliver its hi-tech, cold temperature monitoring systems to all of the grocery retailer’s pharmacies to protect precious vaccines and other medicines (biologicals) in preparation for an expanded vaccine rollout.

Sobeys is taking a leading role among grocery (pharmacy) chains to install powerful AI-backed digital monitoring that works 24/7, in order to exponentially increase accuracy of temperature control and establish a dependable instant-alert system, comparable to having a “vaccine 9-1-1” in more than 400 grocery store pharmacies.

The five-year monitoring service with blueRover AI of Cambridge, marks a pharmaceutical milestone in the battle against COVID, as retailers prepare for a larger-scale vaccine distribution plan to help immunize Canadians in locations that are easily accessible, safe and clean.

“The Vaccine Guidelines require staff to take temperatures daily using a manual process. But that can still leave huge gaps in which valuable cold-storage vaccines for COVID-19 can be lost in power bumps or temperature fluctuations due to mechanical issues” said blueRover Chief Strategic Officer David Melia.

“Every life is precious and therefore every drop of vaccine is precious too. The sensor and the AI-backed software guarantee accurate, instant, and continuous monitoring. Our specialized batteries for last years, enabling us to monitor storage temperatures anywhere in the world ranging from -8 to -80C” said Melia.

The technology was developed by blueRover engineers to help fight the pandemic. It allows pharmacy professionals to spend time serving people, instead of doing temperature checks several times a day using pen and clipboard. The blueRover AI guarantees continuous monitoring and third-party verification for the vaccine guideline regulators.

blueRover CEO Loreto Saccucci praised Sobeys leadership in protecting the medications and Canadians. “blueRover continues to deploy solutions that are focused on keeping people safe, and we are excited to have Sobeys as a valued partner in this quest.”

blueRover cold monitoring technology and expertise is trusted worldwide to oversee:

  • storage temperatures for Gift of Life donor organs
  • temperature ranges for Canadian Navy rescue ship medicine & food stores
  • environmental control in medical fridges at pharmacies, hospitals, doctors’ offices
