Two new COVID-19 cases are being reported this morning at a Barrie high school.

St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Barrie now has seven reported cases of COVID-19.

The Mapleton Avenue school was declared in outbreak by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit on Tuesday. Overall, as of Thursday morning, the school has closed five classrooms.

An outbreak at a school is defined by the local health unit as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff (or other visitors) with an epidemiological link (i.e. shared space or objects with each other), within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have contracted COVID-19 in the school (including transportation and before/after school care).

The school remains open.

The school boards and the health unit have not reported whether the individuals are students or staff members.
