Alan Kuzmich Park is expanding (3 photos)

Construction to be completed by fall

The Town of BWG is expanding Alan Kuzmich Park, and construction is underway.

The new space located on the south side of Chris Hadfield School will include a play area with accessible playground equipment, fitness equipment, a shade pavilion and benches.

Walking trails within the park will be extended to Sutherland Avenue.

The town has received a grant from Simcoe County under the connecting communities program to have a paved path run through the park.

The plan to expand the park comes with the recent housing development along Miller Park Avenue in between West Park Avenue and Melbourne Drive.

The town tendered the park's construction back in 2018, but came in over budget. After removing some elements to the park design, it was tendered again with the successful contractor to begin work August 2019. Their contract was cancelled after failing to start the work as scheduled.

In early 2020, the park was tendered again and awarded to one of the eight prequalified contractors.

The playground is anticipated to open this fall.
