Bradford craft show showcases local artists

Bradford United Church Women events support the church and several charities

The Bradford United Church Women are a small but active group, supporting not only their historic Barrie Street church but a long list of other charities, from Sleeping Children Around the World, and Make-A-Wish Canada, to the local Helping Hand Food Bank.

Their fundraisers are also outreach to the community. The monthly Treasure Sales recycle unwanted items, offering everything from housewares, to books, to toys for kids at bargain prices. The donations help support the church, and their dinners and teas always attract crowds.

This past Saturday’s Christmas Bazaar and Craft Sale offered shoppers an opportunity to purchase hand-crafted gifts, homemade baking and Christmas decorations, and enjoy a hearty soup-and-sandwich lunch.

It was also an opportunity for artists like Michelle Emond to display and sell their work.

“I work in my home studio, but the light…,” said Emond, noting she occasionally takes over the dining room for her painting. The craft show allowed her to bring her brilliant miniatures to a wider audience.

There were original works of art, jewellery, Scentsy candles and giftwares, a book sale, silent auction and quilts on display and for sale.

“Did you see that Thomas the Tank Engine quilt?” said one shopper.

Coming up at Bradford United Church:

The Bradford Arts Centre, 66 Barrie St., hosts a holiday concert, Voices of Good Will and Good Cheer, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy the voices of The Kleinburg Treble Makers, Mark Holmes, The Goldenaires, and Amelia DePiero. Cost is a donation. All welcome.

Ham and scalloped potato dinner, Jan. 19 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the church, 66 Barrie St. in Bradford. Cost is $16 for adults, $8 for children. Tickets will be available in advance from 905-775-7268 or at the door.

There will be no Treasure Sale in December, as Bradford United Church prepares for Christmas. The next Treasure Sale will be held in January — a very special book sale.
