Bradford Wellness Centre hosting ‘Massage-a-Thon’ in support of Helping Hand Food Bank

The centre hopes to raise $5,000 for the local food bank

The Bradford Wellness Centre is hosting a massage-a-thon fundraiser this weekend, where all proceeds from booked massages will be donated to the Helping Hand Food Bank.

The centre’s goal is to raise $5,000, with bookings beginning as early as 6 a.m. and go as late as midnight or even later if necessary.

“There are shift workers, nurses, doctors, farmers, paramedics, police officers that require massages, so we’ve extended this [event] past midnight,” explains Assunta Rose, owner of the Bradford Wellness Centre. “I am willing to do it!”

Rose adds that the centre has been booked solid, but that the fundraiser opened up at least 35 more available appointments.

Sixty-minute massages are $90 (tax included) with 100 per cent of the proceeds being donated to the food bank.  A cheque presentation will be held on Nov. 23.

“We had a cancellation wait-list over 50 people long,” shares Rose. “So, this fundraiser gives people more spots available to book a massage while benefiting the food bank."

Rose was once a client of the food bank many years ago when she was a single parent and understands the struggles and needs of the food bank and its clients. Through this fundraiser, she was able to give back to her community while helping those who need a massage.

“People can’t go on vacation like normal right now," notes Rose. “So, this is their moment of solitude! Trying to get a moment away, to relieve stress and anxiety."

Rose and two other massage therapists at the clinic will be providing massages to pre-booked clients over the entire weekend and will not stop until they meet their goal of $5,000. Any tips left from clients will also be included in the donations to the food bank.

The clinic is also hosting a raffle with prizes available and anyone can purchase tickets to support the fundraiser. Prizes have been donated by many local businesses including Victoria Bourque, Health is Homemade, Little Oak House, BBBeauty Boutique, Bradford Lash Bar, Mel's Craft House, Berries by Betty, Play Dead Customs, Grazeable Food Co., Refresh Candle Co., and Designz by Jay.

“Everyone has been really generous so far! It’s perfect timing to start this now!” shares Rose.

“We’re not going to stop until we hit that $5,000!” asserts Rose.
