The board of trustees for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) passed a balanced operating budget for the 2023-2024 school year in the amount of $314,736,283.

The board is allocated funding based on enrolment from the Ministry of Education through Grants for Student Needs and Priorities and Partnership Funding. The board projects that enrolment will increase slightly in the coming school year.

“We are pleased to be able to present a balanced budget,” said Maria Hardie, board chair. “The education sector, not unlike so many organizations, continues to feel economic pressures, especially in the areas of staffing, special education, transportation and increasing commodity prices.”

“As a system, we will continue to focus on the priorities of well-being and inclusion in order to support student achievement and success as identified in our multi-year strategic plan. We are also fortunate to be part of a growing board, and we look forward to continuing work on three new approved schools in the southern area of our board.”
