Shelly McConville delivers donations from her last fundraiser, which was for the Newmarket Food Pantry.

Shelly McConville is hosting a typical holiday party but with a special twist; it's in support of the Salvation Army.

The Newmarket resident regularly holds a fundraiser around the holidays for the organization.

"It's a very festive season, and basically, I wanted to put something together where people could just gather, get together," McConville said. "Have some great food, good company, share some stories, have some laughs and raise some money for a really good organization."

The event is Dec. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Moody Cow Pub in Aurora. Attendees will be able to enjoy some food there and typical holiday party activities like an ugly sweater contest and a secret gift exchange, with each guest bringing a wrapped gift costing no more than $10.

McConville is an intuitive medium and runs her business Spiritual and Paranormal Connections, providing spiritual reading, animal communication, housing clearing, paranormal investigations, Reiki and teaching others. Due to her work, she typically holds meditation-style events as fundraisers, such as a full moon event she hosted in October, which collected over 100 pounds of food for the Newmarket Food Pantry.

But this year she wanted to switch it up.

"This year I thought, 'I'm going to try something a little different, get more casual, more low key, and people just come and have fun and meet new people,'" she said.

It costs $20 to attend and that full amount will be donated to the Salvation Army. Guests will also be asked to cover the cost of their own food and drink for the night. You can contact McConville at 905-716-8377 to RSVP.
