COLUMN: Beerhurst-at-Deerhurst on tap for March

Annual craft beer festival at Deerhurst Resort will include concert by The Trews

Half craft beer festival, half concert, all excitement for people who like to have a good time. That’s Beerhurst-at-Deerhurst in a nutshell.

An annual craft beer festival (March 1 to 3) in the heart of cottage country, Beerhurst-at-Deerhurst kicks spring off in style at one of Ontario’s premier resorts.

Nestled on a lakeside property just outside Huntsville, Deerhurst Resort has made celebrations and care-free holidays its calling card for more than 125 years. Generations of vacationers have raised a glass to its warm hospitality.

At its heart, Beerhurst-at-Deerhurst is a celebration of flavours. Two dozen of the best craft breweries from across the province will be attending, introducing patrons to brews with character and nuance beyond the ordinary. A good beer doesn’t just taste great but also tells an entertaining story. This is an opportunity to meet the brewers, share their passion, and learn their stories.

“With a drive to create, these breweries are formed with ideas of pushing the limits on beer styles and often a love for bringing people together,” says Danielle Charters, assistant director of marketing for Deerhurst Resort.

Deerhurst’s culinary team will pair these beers with an inspired menu of festive Beerhurst Bites, ranging from mini-pizza spring rolls and soft Bavarian pretzels to mini-maple tarts, deep-fried mac and cheese bites, and duck and beef sliders.

“In a true joint effort, we looked to create a menu that is going to enhance the beer-sampling experience,” explains Charters. “With such a variety of different hand-crafted beer styles, it was important for us to create a menu that would support a diversity of flavours.”

All food and beverages will be available by purchasing ‘brews and food’ tickets.

Headlining the event with a Saturday-evening concert is award-winning Canadian rock band The Trews, playing sets from their gold- and platinum-certified albums. Hit the dance floor and enjoy live music in an intimate concert setting.

“The Trews are the perfect pairing for our Beerhurst-at-Deerhurst Craft Beer Festival with their no-nonsense, rocking hits,” says Charters. “As a proudly Canadian rock band, they are the natural choice to headline this festival full of locally produced craft beer vendors. We’re thrilled to welcome The Trews to their very first performance on the Deerhurst stage.”

The weekend fun isn’t restricted to beer, bites and music. With the rolling Muskoka landscape still wrapped in a blanket of white, there is plenty of time left in winter to enjoy outdoor activities like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing (weather dependent). Or maybe do nothing but lounge in comfort and indulge in a spa treatment.

Beerhurst-at-Deerhurst is a celebration, a party, of artistry — craft beer, gastronomy, and music alike. No better way to ring in March and the pending arrival of spring.

Deerhurst Resort is offering a one- or two-night weekend package including accommodation, a Beerhurst beer glass, ‘brews and food’ tickets and admission to the Saturday-night festival and The Trews concert party. The two-night package includes an exclusive Friday welcome party with live music and late-night bites from 9 p.m. You can also purchase tickets just for the Saturday-night beer festival/concert (without accommodation).
