Cookie campaign raises over $12K for Big Brothers Big Sisters

This year's Smile Cookie campaign in Bradford brought in over $12K for Big Brothers Big Sisters

The Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign in Bradford  raised over $12K for the Big Brothers Big Sisters York Peel this year.

All the funds raised will go directly to youth in the local community.

“We would like to send a big thank you to Tim Hortons Bradford locations for choosing to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel York for their Smile Cookie campaign," said Lori Plati, public relations manager Big Brothers Big Sisters Peel York. "We would also like to extend our thanks to each person in the community who bought a smile cookie and helped to make this incredible donation of $12,961 possible.  Together you will be putting smiles on the faces of several youth by providing our agency with the funds to match youth in York Region who are waiting for a mentor including those who are waiting right here in Bradford. Thank you for helping to inspire and empower youth in York Region to reach their full potential.”

For the past seven years, the proceeds from the cookies sold at the four Bradford Tim Hortons locations have been donated to the local CHATS (Community & Home Assistance to Seniors) organization.

This year, Bradford Tim Hortons' franchise owner Perry Thornton decided to switch things up and donate the cookie sales to Big Brother Big Sisters York Peel.

"It's such a good event, every year it's grown," he said about the campaign.

A record-breaking $15 million has been raised for more than 600 local charities and community groups through the sales of Smile Cookies at Tim Hortons restaurants across Canada.

“We were thrilled last year to set a new Smile Cookie record by raising more than $12 million during the week-long campaign. And thanks to the dedication and passion of the Tim Hortons community, we were able to raise over $15 million this year, with 100 per cent of all proceeds donated to local charities and community groups right in your neighbourhoods,” said Axel Schwan, president of Tim Hortons. “I could not be prouder of what we’ve accomplished together with Tim Hortons restaurant owners, their team members and volunteers, and Tims guests. Our Smile Cookie campaign has grown from its humble roots as local fundraiser in Hamilton in 1996 into something incredibly special that touches so many lives.”

The first-ever Smile Cookie campaign in 1996 raised funds to support Hamilton Children’s Hospital. Since then, the annual charitable campaign has raised a total of more than $92 million for charities and organizations that are selected every year by Tim Hortons restaurant owners. Recipients include local hospitals, community care organizations, food banks and schools.
