Cram a car to feed a feline

Throughout October, Pet Valu in Barrie is collecting food and supplies for local pets in need

Throughout October, Pet Valu is collecting food and supplies for local pets in need and this Thanksgiving long weekend they are pitching in to help collect essential food and supplies for the Furry Friends organization.

Pet Valu at 632 Yonge St. and at 165 Wellington St. are accepting gifts and filling cars full of food and items cats could use. Everything is then driven to the shelter where it can be put to use immediately.

Furry Friends volunteer Nicole Swyers was waiting at the Wellington location for more items, sitting on the back of her hatchback to keep dry.

“It is a little bit rainy out today, but that’s okay,” said Swyers. “It is all in the name of helping.”

Swyers told BarrieToday that the shelter at 25 Hart Dr. has a lot of felines that need feeding, but also wants people to remember that cats like to keep busy.

“At any given time, we have 60 to 100 cats, plus any fosters,” said Swyers. “Through these events we hope to get lots of cat food and kitten food as well as toys or anything that will help us keep the cats fed and entertained.”

The Furry Friends Animal Shelter is non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to providing shelter and love to abandoned, lost or rescued cats in the Barrie community.
