St. Charles Catholic School on Simcoe Road will be getting a crosswalk this spring.

On the Dec. 15 town council meeting, councillors approved the additional funding of $26,000 from the existing traffic mitigation budget to ensure the project is completed in spring 2021.

Originally council had approved $20,000 for a pedestrian crossing on Simcoe Road as part of the 2020 budget, with the tendering process and project to be completed by the end of fall 2020.

However, the lowest bid received for the project came in at $26,000 over budget which included all signage, curb depressions, tactile plates, line markings and solar-powered, blue tooth connected, push-button operated, flashing light poles for either side of the roadway.

The Community and Traffic Safety Committee has $35,000 for Committee recommended projects from the 2020 budget and due to COVID, has sufficient funds to accommodate the remainder of the funds for project completion.
