Halloween party at Grandma's! : The Elden hosts trick-or-treat event for kids (20 photos)

Fun for seniors and their families at The Elden on Sunday

The weather was perfect on Sunday for an afternoon of trick-or-treat with local children and the senior residents at The Elden of Bradford.

Residents and staff sat outside in the warm sunshine with bowls of candy and handed out treats to children who came by with their families to show off their costumes.

The idea originated from the seniors themselves, and was spearheaded by The Elden's Director of Recreation Ashley Guay.

"The residents wanted to do it for their grandkids," explained Jaime Robertson, sales and marketing manager at The Elden, who was dressed as a giant taco for the event.

Robertson shares it's so important for the clients to be able to visit with their grandkids, and this event allows them the opportunity to be apart of the Halloween experience with them.

Non-candy items were also provided to the kids such as pencils and erasers, mini puzzle books, and bouncy balls.

The Elden of Bradford held a similar event two years ago (before the pandemic hit) but was held indoors. Unfortunately, the event did not commence last year due to heightened Covid restrictions at the time.

"It's so great that they did this again!" shared Samantha Eek, who came out with her kids and extended family to celebrate while visiting their grandmother at the centre.

"It was a beautiful day!" she adds.

Staff at The Elden held their own Halloween party on Friday before Halloween, and ' Zina Princess Warrior' (Terry McIntosh) won first place, receiving a giant candy basket.

Many residents said it was nice to be able to come and visit "Grandma and Grandpa" this past weekend and will definitely participate again next year.

"Thank you very much to the Elden of Bradford for inviting the community to their trick-or-treating event!" exclaimed Bradford mom Minh Hoang who came with her two younger daughters in costume. "You made it so easy for the children to navigate through the different stations to pick up their treats and chat with the residents - what a fun and inclusive event for the children!"
