Marsh Mash, known as the fourth oldest marathon canoe race in Ontario will take place in Bradford West Gwillimbury on Saturday May 13, 2023.

Did you know that Marsh Mash is not just for experienced canoeists and kayakers? The race hosts a variety of recreational categories including a 6km adult and child category.

Registration is now available online. All athletes must register online in advance. Registration will close on Friday, May 12 at noon. On race day, athlete check-in will begin at 8 a.m. at Sovereign Grace Church (1466 5th Side Road, Bradford) with an athlete briefing at 9:15 a.m. and the races starting at 10 a.m.

The race attracts canoeists, kayakers, stand up paddleboarders, and outrigger paddlers from all over the province. There are a number of classes and choices of race distances. The Canal, which surrounds the Holland Marsh provides one of the best canoe racing courses in Ontario. There are classes for paddlers with very little canoe racing experience, and there are classes for very competitive paddlers.

The race continues to operate in a partnership with Iain Craig and his family, and the BWG Community Services Department.  The event is sanctioned by the Ontario Marathon Canoe and Kayak Racing Association (OMCKRA) and is a World Team Qualifier for the ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships.

“Bradford West Gwillimbury is proud to host Marsh Mash and welcome paddlers from all over Ontario to race on the canal. We welcome visitors and residents with all experience levels to enjoy the opportunity to paddle the Holland Marsh," says Mayor James Leduc.
