Ontario is reporting fewer than 200 new COVID-19 cases today, for the first time since March 28.

Today’s report from Public Health Ontario states there are 182 new lab-confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the province.

On Sunday, June 7, the province did report 192 new cases, but also included 223 cases that were delayed in being reported to public health, making the total for the day 415 newly reported cases.

Testing is still up in the province with 28,335 tests processed since yesterday’s report.

Recoveries also climbed with more reported resolved cases than new cases today. There were 302 additional recoveries noted.

But the province still continues to report new deaths attributed to COVID-19, with 11 new fatalities included in today’s epidemiological report. The latest victims were all over the age of 60, and seven people over the age of 80.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care has reported 1,776 deaths of long-term care residents, but Public Health Ontario has only reported 1,606 resident deaths to-date.

The province has confirmed a total of 31,726 cases of COVID-19 to-date, with 26,187 recoveries (82.5 per cent), and 2,489 deaths (7.9 per cent). There are currently 527 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 114 in intensive care and 84 patients on ventilators.

According to the province’s report, there are 3,041 active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario.

The average case incidence rate in Ontario is 213 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in the population.

As of yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 511 cases of COVID-19 in the Simcoe-Muskoka region with 96 per cent of those cases in Simcoe County.

Twenty-one per cent of the region’s cases (107 cases) are associated with local institutional outbreaks (residents or staff) and the highest incidence rate for infection in the region is among seniors over the age of 80. There are 214 cases per 100,000 seniors over 80 in the region, and the fatality rate for seniors that age in the region is 36 per cent.
