Running – and bouncing – for Southlake Regional Health Centre

At least $166,000 in pledges were raised for the regional hospital to help purchase essential medical equipment.

They walked, they ran, they strolled – they even bounced.

Team Justgottabounce.com covered the five-kilometre Run or Walk for Southlake while wearing Kangoo Jumps, or spring-loaded shoes.

Approximately 1,500 participants took part in the 16th annual event held Sunday in Newmarket, closing down a section of Davis Drive for several hours as they passed underneath the pedestrian walkway and arch that link Southlake Regional Health Centre with the Medical Arts Building across the road.

They raised at least $166,000 in pledges for the regional hospital to help purchase essential medical equipment.

With temperatures hovering just above zero, many participants were bundled up in toques and mitts – grateful for the cups of soup handed out by sponsors.

The hospital’s new CEO and President Arden Krystal, and the Southlake Foundation CEO Susan Mullin were on hand to thank supporters and announce the winners of the various fundraising team challenges.

It was East Gwillimbury Mayor Virginia Hackson and her team that won the Municipal Cup, beating out teams from Newmarket, Aurora, King Township, and Bradford West Gwillimbury.
