Ontario Arrows win big in their home rugby debut, thumping Boston Mystics 77-8

TORONTO — Canadian international winger Kainoa Lloyd scored four tries and captain Mike Sheppard added three more as the Ontario Arrows had a home opener to remember Saturday, thumping the Boston Mystics 77-8 in rugby play.

The Arrows are a beefed-up version of the Ontario Blues side from the Canadian Rugby Championship.

Saturday's win at York University improved their exhibition record to 3-1-1 over the last two months as their investors determine the viability of pro rugby in Canada with an eye to joining the fledgling seven-team Major League Rugby circuit south of the border.

Kolby Francis and Andrew Wilson each had two tries while Jon West added a single before a crowd of 1,604. Will Kelly kicked seven conversions and a penalty.

The home opener was originally scheduled for April 14 but was called off due to an ice storm.

The team, coached by Chris Silverthorn, beat the Mystics 29-19 in Boston on April 22.
