At least one person in hospital after collision with dump truck

Police investigating crash at Highway 27 and Mapleview Drive

An investigation into what led to a two-vehicle collision in the south end of the city that sent at least one person to hospital is underway.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday a call was received at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday for a collision at Highway 27 and Mapleview Drive.

“A dump truck and a passenger vehicle were involved in the collision with at least one person transported to local hospital,” said Leon. “There may be a second person taken to hospital. I do not have that information yet, nor do we have any further details at this time as the investigation is ongoing.”

He said the area is closed for the investigation and cleanup, which required a heavy-tow truck as the dump truck ended up several metres away from the road, in a field.

Leon said he hoped to have more information in the morning.
