INNISFIL – A 22-year-old Barrie man was taken to hospital following a collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV in Innisfil.

On Tuesday, May 5, 2020, around 5:00 p.m., a Honda street bike travelling southbound on 5th Sideroad collided with an SUV that was in the process of turning left onto 6th Line.  The 22-year-old Barrie man riding the motorcycle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and SSPS wants to remind riders and motorists to be alert, share the road and be safe. We know riders are eager to hit the road but you need to ensure your bike is road ready.  Riders and motorists must work together to ensure everyone arrives home safely.

  • Always wear an approved helmet. It's the law. Riders should also wear jackets with the appropriate padding, gloves, pants and boots for better protection in case of a fall or collision
  • Do a thorough check of your bike in the spring. Check the tires, brakes, head and taillights and oil and fuel levels
  • Approach intersections with caution. Motorcycles can be hard to see so proceed with caution, even if you have the right-of-way
  • Most motorcycle accidents are caused by speeding. Obey posted speed limits and adjust your speed according to road conditions
  • Make sure your motorcycle is the right fit for you. Bikes are more powerful and faster than ever so make sure to get one that you can handle
  • Avoid riding in bad weather. Driving conditions can change quickly and create hazardous roadways. If you have to drive in bad weather, slow down and take your time
